Transparent , awful paint and experience
Bought this last week from B&Q Redditch , after waiting 10 mins on someone to actually come and serve me I got a tin of this , colour matched satinwood. I thought it would be a good product due to the advertising claims , how wrong could I be. Wood prepped accordingly and now 4 costs in and it's still transparent, I've given up as way too expensive and eats hours that I don't have. So disappointed in this , absolutely never again , amazing they still sell this product. Like others I wish I read the reviews first .

Beautiful finish!
I bought this Valspar product a couple months ago; a luminous yellow colour to paint my bookcase. It was very affordable and the finish on my bookcase is fantastic. I was also pretty pleased about how easy it was to clean the paint out of my brushes and rollers using either cleaning spirit or water. I would buy this product again :-)

Really happy and surprised painter
I needed to have a colour matched for secondhand utility cupboard doors went to B&Q armed with a small offcut piece of wood and can honestly say how pleased I am with not just the colour match but I absolutely loved using the paint. I am so impressed with the coverage it achieves. I am off to B&Q very soon armed with a sample of the dark purple I am wanting to use for my next project.

Like water
Bought this to match the interior mixed emulsion. Opened the paint to see what resembled coloured water. Tried stirring but no change. Tried painting on skirting boards but it just ran down to the floor. Put some on the back of a door to see if it was the surface. See picture.

Not what I'd call "Satin"
I got B&Q to mix Valspar paint for me, specifying I wanted it for interior wood, satin finish.
Having now applied two coats I really cannot believe that this is a satin finish. It is totally non-reflective and does not have the smooth satin feel to it that other satin paints that I've used have. Basically it looks and feels like a matt finish.
The tin is clearly marked as Valspar Wood and Metal, Blend V500, Interior Satin. This is presumably the base that B&Q used to add my chosen colors to.
It's puzzling because you do not offer matt finish in the V500 range, only in V700.
I'm not inclined to continue with this paint for all my other interior doors since I know that other paints produce a real satin finish
I'd welcome your response on this before leaving a review on your website
This is the feedback I gave but after no response I'm submitting it as a review.

Don't buy!
I bought the satin wood paint on 22/10/20 and the first coat we thought it was emulsion. We have not attempted the second coat as yet as we feel may need to go for another product to complete the project. Washing the brushes my husband accidentally washed them with water and it washed strait off the brushes. Normally you would need a white spirit to desolve the paint. We used a £10 brush to apply the paint , wouldn't say we used a cheap brush. I have always used the premium Valspar emulation and it is amazing however the satin I would never recommend..... Very dissapointed indeed. Back to drawing bored do find an alternative paint!

Don’t waste your time or money
We bought this paint to update our kitchen cupboards. We used the colour match service which we were happy with. That’s what the one star rating is for.
We spent days priming/sanding/painting/sanding/painting and were initially happy with the results. We left the paint to dry for a week before hanging the doors back up as they were for our new house. Sadly that’s the end of the good experience. As soon as you try to wipe the doors down the paint comes off. The finish goes streaky. The cupboards look awful and I’m now going to have to begin the whole process again, this time with a better quality paint. Very disappointed that my email to Valspar was ignored.

Why did I not use valspar before
Renovating my Victorian house took 115 years of paint off all the woodwork, used johnstone's water based primer, went on awful brush marks everywhere, tried crown and dulux, had to water down to make the paint flow better, spent 115 years sanding brush marks out. my daughters went to B&Q to choose a gloss paint and came back with v550 blend summer grey 5 litres of valspar water based gloss (couldnt use oil based due to the water based primer used) anyway what a lovely product to use, followed instructions painting from dry into the wet, no over spreading, Brilliant stuff no runs the paint seems to defy gravity, why i haven't I used valspar before 10 out of 10

Doesn’t do what it says on the tin!
Purchased this in a colour match from B&Q in order to give our kitchen a facelift. The service from B&Q itself was great, from the application advice to the colour mixing service and the fact I could save my colour for future reference. I followed all of the instructions and applied the first coat. Left this to dry for around 6 hours before application of the next coat. Fast forward to a total of three coats later over an approx total time of 30 hours and still the paint would not fully adhere to the cupboard surface. The slightest knock or touch and the paint has chipped and scratched, back down to the original cupboard. I’ve no idea what to do next?! Basically the cupboard door and the two side panels are going to have to be stripped back -shouldn’t be too hard as the paint doesn’t stick anyway! However, I’m out of pocket now!

Dreadful paint
I bought this paint on Monday to repaint my wooden bar stools. I used the wood and metal paint. It did not go well at all. The paint surface when dry was rough, as if the paint had sand in it. When I went to sand it down prior to putting on the next coat the dry coat started to come off so I abandoned that idea and put another coat on to see if it would improve the finish. It did not. It was the most dreadful paint I have ever used. I have been painting for 50 years, no exaggeration, and this was the worst experience I’ve ever had. I elected to abandon ship and went to a Dulux shop where they mixed me the Valspar paint to an almost perfect match using their own very extensive range of colours, not the range you will find in B&Q but from the professional painters catalogue of colours. I used the high gloss, oil- based paint and have just finished the first coat on two of the stools and am thrilled. Apparently impossible to get an exact Valspar match as they make sure you cannot copy, but I’m thankful I went to the trouble of abandoning the Valspar and went back to good old dependable Dulux.

Valspar wood & metal gloss
Always use valspar, I thought I'd try the wood & metal for new skirting boards in hallway. Only bought a 1l because that's what I needed. The colour was way different from the card, bought roasted hazelnut, a medium brownish colour, came out really light. B&q wont refund because its mixed (I thought he'd mixed the wrong one, that's how different it was) and wood & metal and 1l tubs are not covered by valspar guarantee. Done like a kipper. Avoid the mixed wood & metal.
I've never had an issue with other valspar products, great paint, completely disappointed. Back to dulux going forward.

Rubbish !!
Recently bought a substantial amount of exterior paint which was colour matched at B&Q. This was being used to paint the whole of the house which had been completely rendered. Firstly, I must add that all of the decorating firms I requested quotes from said they would not be happy to use the Valspar paint because of its poor quality and one firm even told me they would not do the job if they had to use Valspar paint because they offered certain guarentees to customers. Because I had spent to much money on the paint I went ahead at risk and now wish I had cut my losses and went with another brand. There was not quite enough paint to finish the job and needed more. They could could not match the colour quite right so I now have a 2 tone house plus its peeling off. Customer service was completely inept and I will never use this company again.

Terrible finish
I bought a satin mix a couple of days ago, applied the first coat on well prepared surfaces and it didn't look great. I applied the second coat the next day and now that it's dried it just looks like I've applied matt emulsion to my doors. Very flat and dull, certainly not like a satin finish. Very, very disappointed as I painted 4 doors and the paint cost £25+. I have previously used other makes of satin water based products and they have given me the finish I wanted.

The best finish ever!!
Bought from B&Q 1L of this paint tinted to dark blue. Used on the side of the bath and oh my what a finish!! The beautiful Matt finish this paint has is lovely. First time I’ve ever used and I will never buy any other paint again!! If the emulsion is as good then I’ll be happy!

Sticky
I’ve used this on an MDF windowsill which I’d primed with an appropriate primer. After 5 separate coats and a week to dry, a cup placed on top of paper has left a ring behind that I can’t remove. Trying to clean with a baby wipe has taken some of the paint away - so much for it being durable! There a various other marks that I can’t clean either - not impressed.

Dinner Jacket wood/metal paint and matt for walls
Bought our paint from B and Q it is the exact colour we wanted for our through lounge and dining room. The paint for the walls took three coats and there is a large area to cover. It covered well but if it is caught by anything it chips through to the original colour which ok we can live with and remedy.
The wood and metal paint however is another story.
I prepared the surface etc and primed first ..used two coats of the top coat thinking that will be enough ( i am 66 and do not want to spend my life painting) it isn't. This paint marks and chips for fun. We dare not vacuum close to the skirting for fear i will need to start painting again.
So in summary Valspar offer the best range of colours ....their wall paint is very good and is effective if you apply enough coats ....but the wood and metal paint is in my opinion not up to the job in the way an oil based paint would be ....and for me it is an issue as at my age i do not want to be lifting carpets and re-preparing and painting again.

Gloss paint
This paint was not glossy. It only has sheen to it. B&Q said this is because it's eco-friendly and this will be the norm. So will we never have gloss paint?
I feel we have been given the wrong paint. I spoke to Valspar today. You've advised me to send a copy of the can label and a picture of what I have painted. I'll do this, but I'm not convinced.

Love the colour
Having recently moved to a new home I wanted to create my own particular style.I love the enormous range of colours in the Valspar range, even in gloss. I've painted the walls and set them off with a lovely contrasting colour for the skirting boards. It's very easy to use, doesn't have the strong overpowering gloss paint smell that used to put me off of gloss painting and the brushes wash out in water. Thoroughly recommended.

Dreadful paint.
We bought a 1ltr tub of this paint from our local B&Q store. We had it mixed up and chose Plus Luxury and the colour was exactly what we wanted.
Fast forward two weeks when we came to start papering the walls. My husband put a filling knife down onto the freshly painted Plush Luxury surface. I didn't notice straight away that a large bubble had developed and was soft and sticky.
I rubbed it down and carefully repainted.
Unfortunately that was only the beginning of this Paint not living up to its expectations. Skirting boards and door frames all chipped and rubbed off very easily.
This Paint finish DOES NOT LAST.
It rubs off with a damp cloth and chips away if you put anything down onto it.
It is absolute rubbish.
Valspar Customer Services are not interested and would not reimburse me.
Will never buy again , I'm beyond upset. DO NOT BUY....
