Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality for price I have been a decorator for 36years and this has to be one of the poorest paints I have ever used. I applied 2 coats to a staircase and you can see every roller mark and the walls look patchy, especially in electric light. I have had to arrange to re paint the entire staircase again. This time I will be using Trade paint, no comparison in quality. Very disappointed and annoyed as I have wasted a lot of time and energy, not to mention the cost to my wallet and reputation. I have been a fan of Valspar paint since I was. Store manager in 1973 and promoted Valspar paint to all my customers. I think there is far too much vinyl in this emulsion which helps with durability and less splatter but its just a very expensive DIYer paint. I would recommend you spend your money wisely and buy the Gold tin or trade if you can afford to as this is quite expensive. Better in the long run though. Sorry Valspar but iether this paint is poor quality for price or I have a faulty batch. 10ltr down the drain.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful paint We bought this paint for our hallway and the whole experience has been horrible. The paint clumps unbelievablably quickly so its impossible to get a smooth finish on the wall. We have tried putting on a base coat of white paint and also watering the paint down but it has made absolutely no difference and still looks awful! We have had to paint the wall in small sections so as not to overlap it in any way, wait for it to completely dry before doing another coat which has been a nightmare. I will never ever buy this paint again and definitely never recommend it to anyone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor application Painted two different rooms in my flat with the V500 and spent alot of time and money trying to get a good finish. Colour is really nice but thats about it. Application was a nightmare as it is very thick and you do not get good coverage out of it. Once it dried, the texture and finish was very very poor. It looks OK straight on but, if you look at a slight angle the horrible texture and patchy paint shows right through with even a slight shine to it (even though we used matt). Given the walls multiple coats and have tried sanding inbetween and various rolling techniques (no success). Really disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Should have read the reviews before purchasing... I stupidly didn't read the reviews of v500 before purchasing and took the recommendation of a B&Q employee who said it was x10 better than Dulux and even better than Farrow & Ball. The first coat was very disappointing but thought this would be sorted after the second, sadly not! The paint lifted some of the plaster (just like the other reviews) and also oddly bubbled in places, something I've not experienced before. The second coat has dried patchy and, in my opinion, looks more like silk than matt. I'm really disappointed and debating whether to redo the room with another brand or just leave it (as it's only an under stairs cupboard). For some reason, the Valspar website won't let me upload photos (funny that) but please trust all the negative reviews, it really is that bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality paint for the price I bought 5l of Grand Plie and 2.5l of Jam Jar silk which was mixed in the shop..I found applying the paint extremely difficult to work with. Whilst applying, the paint seemed to drag and lift off the paint applied moments earlier, seeming to be drying far too quickly, leaving a very patchy application which was extremely frustrating and time consuming so I gave up. The paint is expensive compared to other popular brands so I was upset to have wasted my money. Will not be using again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Another unhappy customer The pictures speak for themselves. B&Q refunded, but we're left to sand, buy more white paint to neutralise walls and then repaint white and a colour once we find a more reliable brand. Couldn't get through on the customer services phone number, so have emailed I hope will be dealt with quickly. Very disappointed that we won't get the room finished in time now for my mum coming over at Christmas.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No covering power - drags and poor finish Two examples= bought some dark blue, took 3 coasts to cover a white wall FFS. Wanted Dulux paint, but B&Q said they cant mix, so cocked up AGAIN buying Valspar The paint- reacted with the Dulux paint ( 7days old), The Valspar paint drags and streaks, left a right mess. Pay a bit less and get some good paint from somewhere else. Found this page searching for a solution to the reaction, seems lots of people are struggling with this poor product

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Faulty product I bought 3 tins of 2.5 litre matt emulsion mixed in store and found that the first tin contained lumps. Having opened the second tin I have found no lumps but am not entirely satisfied with the coverage. I have applied 3 coats to an area which was previously a similar colour ( only slightly darker ) but it still looks patchy. I am concerned about the third tin which is a darker colour ( for the feature wall) and already wish that I had brought Dulux paint as so far, it looks as though I have made a very expensive mistake. I can't use one of the tins and it doesn't look as though I can get an exchange.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Truly Awful I bought 2.5l of Castled Rhine and 5l of Oceans Reflections V500 emulsion in Matt finish mixed at B&Q. Paint was applied to already painted plaster walls coloured pale peach. The Castelled Rhine is a dark blue colour and I’d expected a couple of coats would be required but 4 coats later it still looks patchy. Strangely the paler blue oceans reflections covered better with two coats giving a reasonably solid appearance. Both paints however suffered from drag and lifting of paint applied only 30 seconds or so earlier making it very difficult to obtain a high quality finish. I note others have had good experiences with Valspar so I’m left wondering if this is a quality control issue or a problem with the mixing at B&Q. Based on this experience though I have to rate the product as awful and would never recommend to anyone else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A very frustrated customer Previously a big advocate, we've used Valspar throughout the house using the same blend. Having just had an extension built off the living room it was necessary to use the same for continuity but I have been shocked to experience the same results as recently recorded. Splitting and peeling paint on freshly prepared plaster has left me looking for advice on how to resolve as I don't want to repaint the whole house.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dries patchy I colour-matched a light grey in B&Q, choosing V500 matt emulsion for hall, staircase and landing walls. I have decorated my own home all my life, having been taught by my father, who was a painter and decorator, so I am proficient. I applied the paint by brush, which I much prefer to roller, but the paint seemed to dry far too quickly and it was impossible to feather it into the adjacent area nicely. As I expected, it dried with patchy areas of varying sheen when it should have been flat matt. I realise I could have diluted it a little but that would have weakened its toughness somewhat, and I chose V500 because of its claimed durability - the area has heavy use. I am not at all impressed with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect paint I wanted to paint our chimney breast and after picking up 20 (yes really) colour chips, I took the plunge and opted for Mocca Mauve. I checked with the assistant in B&Q what paint the tester pots are, she said they're the V500. I bought 4 pots thinking this would be about right for my job. This stuff goes on like a dream. I used a mini-roller and cannot fault it, I only used 2 of the tester pots to give my chimney breast 2 very generous coats. The colour is the exact same shade as the chip (this is a first!). My first experience with this brand, but won't be my last. I'm now going to buy a full size can and do the bottom half of my hall walls in the same shade. Highly recommended, my only problem was that there were too many colours to choose from :-)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 5/6 coats I thought I found the perfect shade for my wall, I went for a lovely matt teal. This paint took 5/6 coats as it was so translucent and now I'm stuck with a wall that's got a shiny satin finish, not matt. Hopefully paying a bit more with sanderson paint will give me the look I asked for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from valspar Blend V700 poppy red Omg I hate this paint, it doesn't how much prep you do to your walls.... I am so upset with this awful paint, two coats and it's extremely patchy never known anything like it and I wasted all my time and money on this paint. I wish I had brought Dulux paint now.. never ever will I use this paint again and I am still having to try and patch up the horrible patch work paint ... I now hate my bedroom.. avoid avoid avoid at all costs. Expensive load of rubbish

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Similar to previous reviews when using Valspar V500 Matt, this paint has dried like an aligator skin and has cracked to the point of peeling in places. The wall was suitably prepared (sanded and primed) and the paint was applied in accordance with the guidelines stipulated on the can. I have painted multiple rooms with valspar products all in similar fashion without issue but this was years ago and the current product seems not to be on par with this. Therefore I would summise that quality of the product is notfit for purpose and ultimately very costly to recitfy. In addition it is very difficult trying to contact Valspar to resolve complaints and obtain replacement paint nothwithstanding any compensation for rework and associated lost time. I await repsonse at the time of writing and undoubtedly the response will be similar to the generic response written against multiple previous reviews.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from You’ll spend way more money trying to fix Bought a white shade from valspar range after the mixer colour matched to a grey/white from delux range. Colour looked good in the tin but once it was on the walls, it looked more like yellow (I have a large kitchen with plenty natural light so no reason for the shades to have change that much). I went back to get a dark colour and do the bottom happy with your colour’ swap scheme they have. Thinking the dark would be an easy fix if it was in fact my lighting however, it was proven not. The blue went disgustingly patchy when dried (see photos) and it dries to more a grey colour, not the dark blue I bought. Totally gave up and decided to buy a delux white and repaint the WHOLE kitchen to start fresh. In theory this should of cost me about £55 for the whole kitchen, it’s costs me 3 x the amount and about 2 weeks of my time wasted back and fourth at B&Q and painting. Trust me. Stay away from this paint.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t touch for new build Bought a Lot of paint from our local b&q after a base coat of a different manufacturer that covered better than we though It would we then on the advise of the decorators bought valspar and the result are awful and this was painted by the decorator Now it’s going to cost god knows how much to sort we are going to return the rest of the paint

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AWFUL - DO NOT BUY! I bought a LOT of V700 AND V500 paint at Penrith B&Q mixed to Farrow & Ball’s Strong White to paint my newly refurbished house (bought for the whole house) and I cannot tell you how upset I am with the mess and stress this paint has caused! After following B&Q’S tips on how to paint onto newly plastered walls I prepped and applied this paint. Believe me the walls were prepped perfectly and the plaster was bone dry. However after the first coat this paint crackled and peeled. It has completely ruined my small bedroom which will now have to be wallpapered over! I got in touch with Valspar but other than offering me some V700 paint (which I would not touch anymore) they just told me to contact B&Q, who haven’t responded. After such a bad experience I painted my other bedroom in Dulux easycare with exactly the same treatment and it is perfect, which just goes to prove that this is the paint or B&Q’S mixing. I’m so disappointed in this company. DO NOT BUY!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Matt is shiny Terrible. Flat Matt? It’s so shiny. Goes on patchy and looks terrible on uneven walls. Flat matt is what is best for uneven walls and this is so shiny it’s ridiculous. Dreadful! And ideally I’d like to paint over it with some dulux Matt but I bet it’s too shiny to paint over! Cheers b and q!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from patchy I am having the same results as other people..patchy outcome. Valspar..........the way you should test your paints is as follows. Get a white surface., put a masking tape along the edge.....dye your paint black. Then test it with rollers, spray, paint brush..if it is patchy..revise the recipe & retest. This is what is needed not constant apologies. Fix the problem..then everyone is happy..the patches do not show when you paint pale colours onto pale surfaces

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst paint ever I brought this paint 2 weeks ago in matt finish as I could have the colour matched up, the staff in b&a were a great help with matching the colour, and advised of how to prep the walls before painting, the paint does go on really well however, once it had dried I noticed loads of cracks all around the room in the paint, resulting in the whole lot having to come back off, I used to rate this paint but very disappointed after spending almost £80 in total

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shutter Doors We bought this paint for shutters on home and we are absolutely delighted with the result! Really easy to apply, fantastic coverage, the colour looks amazing and has transformed the exterior of the house which had been painted a dark brown.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from First experience of Valspar paint Spent £27, on a can of V500. Asked for 'matt' and got home to find I had a can of 'soft sheen'. Not deterred, I prepped everything and started to paint my pale yellow walls with a darkish orange.. 'melon punch'. I am on the 2nd coat and it looks like 4 coats might give an even coat. Sooo very disappointed!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely awful! £24 wasted and walls ruined! DISCOURAGE ANYBODY FROM WASTING MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT. I bought this today from B&Q after getting colour matched and began cutting in, I have never experienced such an awful application, it’s patchy and almost like tacky glue. At first I assumed it must just need more on the brush but going over literally dragged the existing paint off and around. I’m extremely upset as not only have I wasted money, I have to fork out more money for more paint (absolutely NOT valspar) and have to waste more time to fix the wall that this awful product has destroyed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cracking and pealing After renovating complete house. Last job was to paint every room. Had paint mixed up at b&q for each room spending a lot of money to find that the paint cracked and pealing off the walls. We have had to engage a painter to carry out the repairs caused to the new walls and purchase all the paint again but Dulux this time. Very poor quality of paint and very expensive learning curve. Would not be purchasing Valspar paint again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst emulsion ever! Bought Valspar V500 mixed in local B&Q and I wish I hadn’t! For a simple job of painting a bedroom it has turned into a nightmare. After 2 coats with crazing cracking in different parts of the walls I then, having read reviews online, applied Zinsser Peel Stop. 2 more coats of V500 and still crazing cracking. Have been decorating rooms for decades and have never come across this before. This stuff isn’t cheap and has so far cost a lot more than it should having had to go back to B&Q to buy more V500 and Peel Stop. Not using this brand ever again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Paint cracked!! Having just finished our living room using Valspar V500, we are now completely horrified to find the paint has cracked on most corners. Having picked this paint for durability purposes and easily washed and wiped, it is clear it is none of those things as it doesn’t even withstand being applied to walls. I am disgusted we have paid for a premium product for a far worse result than we have ever had from other brands.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from David I have bought two different colours in B&Q week ago now just finished painted. The colours are perfect but for that price I am little bit disappointed as I needed to paint 3 times each room. I Was painted third room with Duluxe vinyl white and was covering better than this one. I don't know why but 2 Years ago I had this Valspar in My daughter room and was covering perfectly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never had such a bad result with paint Just purchased 15 litres of this from B&Q, painted hall, stairs in landing, mainly in a light tone, paint glided on, lovely to work with, 2coats and i thought i had a decent finish, started with the darker shade, again covered well, nice colour nice finish, until i looked at it from am angle, could see every roller mark, gave another two coats using new roller, same effect only roller marks in different areas, I tried an emulsion brush, when i tried to blend it just became a mess and had to be washed off, in desperation i tried thinning with water and applying by brush, this time it dried in stripes, strangely the width of a paintbrush! Although the other walls are acceptable, when you look at those from an angle they too show the roller marks. I've used valspar before but it was ready mixed and this is not the same quality paint. I have an unopened tin of this stuff left and it is honestly fit for nothing

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shocking coverage, so patchy! We are renovating our house and having a brand new bathroom fitted, we had fresh plaster walls all prepped and mist coated as per directed. We have used your products before and loved them (we used Matt v700 last time). But after multiple coats we are now left with patchy walls where the light shines from the windows highlights that the finish is so inconsistent strangely looks like both Matt and sheen and a complete mess. We also bought the same bathroom v500 soft sheen finish in white for the ceiling and have the exact same problem, the finish is so inconsistent. We are so disappointed because this is a brand new bathroom, the final fit out from the plumber is due next week - once completed we will be unable to paint around furniture, towel radiator etc. What do you suggest we do to save our project!?
