Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely awful! £24 wasted and walls ruined! DISCOURAGE ANYBODY FROM WASTING MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT. I bought this today from B&Q after getting colour matched and began cutting in, I have never experienced such an awful application, it’s patchy and almost like tacky glue. At first I assumed it must just need more on the brush but going over literally dragged the existing paint off and around. I’m extremely upset as not only have I wasted money, I have to fork out more money for more paint (absolutely NOT valspar) and have to waste more time to fix the wall that this awful product has destroyed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cracking and pealing After renovating complete house. Last job was to paint every room. Had paint mixed up at b&q for each room spending a lot of money to find that the paint cracked and pealing off the walls. We have had to engage a painter to carry out the repairs caused to the new walls and purchase all the paint again but Dulux this time. Very poor quality of paint and very expensive learning curve. Would not be purchasing Valspar paint again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Paint cracked!! Having just finished our living room using Valspar V500, we are now completely horrified to find the paint has cracked on most corners. Having picked this paint for durability purposes and easily washed and wiped, it is clear it is none of those things as it doesn’t even withstand being applied to walls. I am disgusted we have paid for a premium product for a far worse result than we have ever had from other brands.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst emulsion ever! Bought Valspar V500 mixed in local B&Q and I wish I hadn’t! For a simple job of painting a bedroom it has turned into a nightmare. After 2 coats with crazing cracking in different parts of the walls I then, having read reviews online, applied Zinsser Peel Stop. 2 more coats of V500 and still crazing cracking. Have been decorating rooms for decades and have never come across this before. This stuff isn’t cheap and has so far cost a lot more than it should having had to go back to B&Q to buy more V500 and Peel Stop. Not using this brand ever again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from David I have bought two different colours in B&Q week ago now just finished painted. The colours are perfect but for that price I am little bit disappointed as I needed to paint 3 times each room. I Was painted third room with Duluxe vinyl white and was covering better than this one. I don't know why but 2 Years ago I had this Valspar in My daughter room and was covering perfectly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never had such a bad result with paint Just purchased 15 litres of this from B&Q, painted hall, stairs in landing, mainly in a light tone, paint glided on, lovely to work with, 2coats and i thought i had a decent finish, started with the darker shade, again covered well, nice colour nice finish, until i looked at it from am angle, could see every roller mark, gave another two coats using new roller, same effect only roller marks in different areas, I tried an emulsion brush, when i tried to blend it just became a mess and had to be washed off, in desperation i tried thinning with water and applying by brush, this time it dried in stripes, strangely the width of a paintbrush! Although the other walls are acceptable, when you look at those from an angle they too show the roller marks. I've used valspar before but it was ready mixed and this is not the same quality paint. I have an unopened tin of this stuff left and it is honestly fit for nothing

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shocking coverage, so patchy! We are renovating our house and having a brand new bathroom fitted, we had fresh plaster walls all prepped and mist coated as per directed. We have used your products before and loved them (we used Matt v700 last time). But after multiple coats we are now left with patchy walls where the light shines from the windows highlights that the finish is so inconsistent strangely looks like both Matt and sheen and a complete mess. We also bought the same bathroom v500 soft sheen finish in white for the ceiling and have the exact same problem, the finish is so inconsistent. We are so disappointed because this is a brand new bathroom, the final fit out from the plumber is due next week - once completed we will be unable to paint around furniture, towel radiator etc. What do you suggest we do to save our project!?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Midtown magic Good quality paint, had my friends and family round to help paint and they all were a tad shocked at the darkness of the the colour. But once painted they had all fallen in love with it. Only required one coat. Looks fab against bright accessories. Highly recommend!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not touch this paint I bought the kitchen paint and had to put a few coats on and one little scratch and the paint is now peeling off. Meanwhile I had bout about 4/5 2.5ltr tins the first colour didnt look nothing like it was supposed to look like so I went and bout some more and this one has peeled off a little chip. I DO NOT recommend this product at all. Stay clear of this

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Product quality control I recently decorated my dining room with cherry macron V700 mat emulsion. The finish was dreadful and bore no resemblance to the colour or mat finish of the swatch. Valspar were good about the issue and gave me a voucher for free product in future. However, the time and disruption caused was signs and Valspar need to address the issue I’ve had to avoid others suffering the same consequences. We had to redecorate using V500 matt to achieve the required finish and colour.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lots of cracking This paint seems to crack whatever I do. Well prepped walls, sanded and mist coated, and it cracks (specifically around the edges where a brush was used). I write this hoping to save someone else from wasting their time and money. I then sanded all those patches, put a watered down coat on then painted over the top, it cracks again. Now I have scraped of all of that, sanded really meticulously, and will try to get some watered down paint to stick, I hope it works. I'll not buy this paint again, I wonder whether the paint has been changed recently, because I used it in another room 4 ish months ago and had none of these problems. But either way, I don't want to spend hours and hours constantly re-doing jobs that should be finished. Going back to Dulux.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AWFUL - DO NOT BUY! I bought a LOT of V700 AND V500 paint at Penrith B&Q mixed to Farrow & Ball’s Strong White to paint my newly refurbished house (bought for the whole house) and I cannot tell you how upset I am with the mess and stress this paint has caused! After following B&Q’S tips on how to paint onto newly plastered walls I prepped and applied this paint. Believe me the walls were prepped perfectly and the plaster was bone dry. However after the first coat this paint crackled and peeled. It has completely ruined my small bedroom which will now have to be wallpapered over! I got in touch with Valspar but other than offering me some V700 paint (which I would not touch anymore) they just told me to contact B&Q, who haven’t responded. After such a bad experience I painted my other bedroom in Dulux easycare with exactly the same treatment and it is perfect, which just goes to prove that this is the paint or B&Q’S mixing. I’m so disappointed in this company. DO NOT BUY!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible product, don't waste your money A few weeks ago I purchased a tin of emulsion paint. I have only just got around to using it, and when I opened it the paint seemed really thin. I put one coat of emulsion on and could tell it would need at least another 2 coats. Unhappy, so my partner returned it to B&Q only for him to bring it home again and told me they had mixed it again and was now thicker. I opened the tin but found it was still far too thin, the consistency of double cream. My partner returned the paint again in the hope of swapping it for Dulux but he was refused this as apparently that is the right consistency. Whether it is or isn't, I am still unhappy with the product and have had to pay more money for Dulux which has done the job perfectly. Valspar definitely has done what was promised.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I'm so disappointed with this paint. This paint dries rapidly, as a result it has dried blotchy and too thick in some areas, making subsequent layers impossible to have a high standard of finish. As a qualified p&d I now have the unpleasant job of sanding the whole room and purchasing more paint. Not what I expected from a recommended brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lovely colour, shame about the finish We bought the V500 paint to decorate the living room. The coverage was good, loved the colour but the paint has crackled in some areas, so looks dreadful. We all seasoned home decorators and have never had these issues with any other paint or room we have decorated. Such a huge disappointment!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Paint I bought 10l of Morning Haze V500 emulsion in Matt finish mixed at B&Q on 27 December and applied in 2 coats over 2 days in 2/3 January to paint the upper & lower hall plus stairs. The paint was poor for 2 reasons. Firstly, this was a time consuming job having to go slowly around doors, skirtings, ceilings etc with a brush before using the roller. I therefore did this in small sections at a time. However the paint seemed to dry far too quickly and moving between brush and roller caused the brushed paint to become like cottage cheese where it met the roller. I see that this process of the dragging and lifting of paint, applied only minutes earlier, is noted in other comments. Secondly, the paint has at points a cracked finish to it when you look at it very closely. The attached photos are close ups, and whilst I daresay that nobody would look that closely, that’s not really the point as I know where to look and it is an irritation for what is meant to be a quality paint. The paint was stirred at the beginning and throughout the painting process. I also turned the central heating off so the house wasn’t too warm during application so I can’t understand what the problem is with this paint which was not cheap for 10 litres. Based on this experience I won’t use this product again and would not recommend to anyone else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous colour but be prepared for multiple coats We decorated my daughter’s bedroom this month and we were going from a “Tiffany blue/green” to a lovely pink called “Raindrops on Roses” The final coverage colour is true to the shade card and has an amazing finish. However, be prepared to paint at least 4 coats. A 5 litre enabled us to do decorate the entire room and we were not sparing with the amounts used on the roller.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Luxurious feeling paint I bought this to paint our snug and cover up a really disgusting red the previous owners had used. I was already in love with the colour - Weather Vane and found that the coverage and colour worked brilliantly. Our whole room was done in a few hours and the finish was flawless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Final finish 5** I bought this paint very septial of other reviews as they were hit and miss, the first coat had me worried as I had chosen a dark navy colour but after 3 coats (not even using half the tin on 1 wall) I got the perfect colour, extremely pleased & would use again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Should have read the reviews! 2.5ltr of valspar Matt v500 River deep, 3 coats on a Matt white wall I’ve had worse coverage. But the v500 yam is different story, coat number 6 and it’s still patchy. Asked at the desk whilst buying more paint , 3 coats max was the answer

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful Had 3 different colours x 2.5 litres of Valspar from B & Q Warrington. One colour coverage was ok ish but the other 2 are rubbish. Walls look terrible and will have to be redone. Not impressed with Valspar and will not use again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible paint to work with This paint drags and pulls like a reaction has happened within 30 seconds. From cutting in and to roller I can not get a suitable finish. One concern I have is have the b and q operative used the correct base.?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unimpressed with Valspar paint My daughter wanted a specific pink colour for her bedroom, so via B&Q had 2.5litres of V500 'Ladylike' mixed up for us - which I'll add wasn't cheap! I've used other 'well known' brands for years and as per the Valspar website, paint edges first with a brush; no matter how fast I then switch to the roller to blend in the edges and paint the larger wall areas, the paint goes all rough in texture, as if it is drying fall too quickly (as another review states - it looks like cottage cheese).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful cracking after painting I've used Valsper paint always for decorating, normally the 2.5l tin. This time was painting a lot of rooms for the customer in the same colour so bought a 5l tin. The result was this awful cracking.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Farrow and ball colour match Very uneven and patchy finish despite a mist coat after filling and thorough rubbing back. Have now used 3 coats with up to a day drying time between coats

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor application I bought this a couple of months ago from B&Q in preparation for painting my whole house, I bought various tins of V700 and this evening painted the first room in ‘Milk and Honey’. For one, the colour is much lighter than the sample we took home. Secondly, the paint can not be cut in - after doing roller work when trying to cut in the paint just peels off and goes like cottage cheese. We are extremely disappointed and concerned considering we have bought so much of this paint.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do NOT use this paint! I bought this paint last week to use in our guest bedroom of our new build house. We have painted several other rooms so far but using other brands of paint and have had no issues. I wanted to use the colour match service because this is a large room. I really wish I had just forked out for the branded paint I wanted now. I only painted two walls before I noticed what was happening. They’re ruined. The paint has cracked, flaked off and taken the wall back to the plaster and just left a pretty terrible finish in other places. I’m so disappointed. I thought with a big name like Valspar we would be fine but I really wish I had read these reviews before we started. We now need our walls stripping and fixing before we even contemplate redecorating and finishing the room. I will await my customer service response...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a rich colour! Ive used velspar on all my walls for the last few years and love it! It goes on the walls so easily and always gives the walls such a rich colour! Some paints can very flat looking but I never find this with this paint. I often find the paint only needs one coat if you do it carefully the first time! We usually do a second coat but i think that says more about our pinting skills! Love the incredible choice of colours especially if youre looking for an exact shade!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Harder to apply and cracking I brought V500 Grey Day Matt paint for my sons room. I hadn’t used Velspar before and initially really liked that it felt thicker than most Matt paints that I had used before. I was wrong it took ages to apply, I needed twice as much paint as I used in my own bedroom (which is larger) to get a consistent appearance and to top it off have had cracking across c. 10% of the room which I will now have to scrape back, re prepare and then repaint !! Right now not a fan.
