The importance of colour

There is far more to colour than first meets the eye. In fact, choosing the right colour can be a crucial decision in the design process. It can have a major impact on our mood, emotions and wellbeing, as well as influencing how we experience and interact with a space. Making the correct decisions can enhance the aesthetic of a room and completely change its appearance – so no pressure!

Science of colour matching

A perfect colour match is influenced by a combination of high-quality pigments, technology, spectrometer and database used in store. Expert colour matching will often rely on a spectrometer to analyse a colour sample and break it down into its constituent pigments. This information can then be used to either determine the closest colour match from a fan deck or create a custom formula. Recently, B&Q have begun to roll out new MetaVueâ„¢ machinery across all TradePoint stores, providing breakthrough non-contact imaging spectrophotometer technology to get an even more exact colour match.

Once a colour has been chosen, the tinting machine’s computer system will dispense the perfect amount and combination of pigments to create it. The can is then shaken to ensure the pigment is fully combined with the base formula, for a consistent and true colour.
