What makes a good paint scrubbable?
One thing you may hear us talk about a lot is the scrubbability of Valspar Trade Tough Matt. But what is a scrubbable paint? And how can it benefit you and your customers? Read on as we reveal all…
What is a scrubbable paint?
A scrubbable paint is a durable, stain resistant formula that is able to be thoroughly cleaned without losing any colour or having noticeable damage. Able to withstand daily wear and tear, it makes it the perfect choice for busy circulation areas – whether in a home, school or healthcare environment.

HOW IS ITS PERFORMANCE TESTED?
The performance of a scrubbable paint is tested against the ISO 11998 Standard Certification, which breaks scrubbability down into five classes. Class 1 has the highest wet-abrasion resistance. To receive an ISO rating, the emulsion must be able to endure vigorous cleaning with a mild detergent, all without leaving any visible damage to the finish. For a Class 1 rating, the paint must lose less than five microns of thickness after 200 scrubbing cycles.
What does this mean for me?
As a professional painter and decorator, reputation is everything. By opting for a scrubbable paint, you can be confident in the quality and durability of the final finish, reducing the potential of callbacks or paint touch-ups further down the line. If your paint job can stand the test of time and withstand the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it could also help to boost your reputation and gain you even more custom.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR MY CUSTOMERS?
Using a scrubbable paint is also beneficial for the end user, from homeowners to landlords and commercial building managers, as it can prolong the time between surfaces needing to be repainted. For consumers, it helps them to keep their homes clean and scuff-free, being able to easily clean their walls with a soft sponge and warm soapy water. For landlords it can contribute to quicker tenant changeovers, with less maintenance work required between tenancies, while for commercial buildings it’s all about extending maintenance schedules and minimising disruption to business.
