Themed rooms can be especially exciting for younger kids.

If your toddler is obsessed with a specific TV show character, a themed room is a great idea and it isn’t as complicated to create as you think. It also might make bedtimes a little bit easier too! Here’s some of our tips to help achieve your toddler’s dream character bedroom.

1. Narrow down your theme

There are loads of ways you can create a character room. Whether you choose to paint muddy puddles, a picnic in the park or a night-time boat ride, you should decide which characters and setting you want to feature – your child’s favourite character is a good place to start! Deciding on your mural early on will help shape the rest of the room and make it much easier to buy the exact colours you need.

If you don’t want to commit to painting a character mural, you could use blocks of colour instead. Our colour matching service can match and mix exactly the same colours to those seen in the show so even if you’re not an artist, you can still easily achieve the look and theme you want.

If you still want to include characters but don’t want to be too ambitious, a handful of wall vinyl stickers of your kid’s favourite characters will help to finish things off. These stickers easily peel off so you’ve got the added bonus of not needing to redecorate once they grow out of the show!

 

2. Sketch out your plan

Before you go ahead and paint your cartoon masterpiece, use pencil to sketch the placement and outline of your characters to make sure it’s just right. This will give you the chance to rectify any mistakes before they become too permanent. To make sure you get the right silhouette, print out the character you want to draw and use it as an outline to get the perfect look.

It will also give you a good indication of the amount of paint you will need.

 

3. Match your colours

Once you’ve formed your plan, bring your character inspiration instore and we can match and mix the exact colours for you. You definitely don’t want to skip this step as you might end up with an ill-looking beloved TV character!

 

4. Use decorators tape

Decorators tape (or painters tape) helps you segment your mural and keeps paint neatly divided. It makes painting complex shapes and patterns much easier as you don’t have to worry about paint bleeding! So, don’t worry if you’re being ambitious, it’ll still work out well.

 

5. Finish with accessories

To finish off your toddler’s dream bedroom, buy accessories that even the most die-hard fans will love. There are literally thousands of pieces to choose from including bedding, play houses, clothing and, of course, toys.
