Water damage indoors? Tackle it with Thompson’s
If you live in the UK, you’ll know how common damp is - and not just outside. Indoors, it often shows up as peeling paint, musty smells, and those telltale yellow or brown stains on ceilings and walls.
These signs of water damage might not seem serious at first, but left untreated, they can lead to mould, crumbling plaster and permanent damage.
Luckily, you can tackle it with Thompson’s.
Thompson’s Stain Block & Damp Seal is a 2-in-1 treatment that seals in damp patches and blocks stains in one go. It gives you a clean, dry surface that’s ready to paint or wallpaper - and helps stop the problem from coming back. It’s quick to apply, dries fast and works on most indoor surfaces, including plaster, cement, brick and stone.

Before you begin, it’s essential to locate and address the source of the dampness. That might be a leaking pipe, poor ventilation in a bathroom or a previous water spill that soaked into the wall. Once that’s been sorted, you can treat the area with confidence, knowing it won’t reappear.
Here’s how to get the best results when using Stain Block Damp Seal indoors:
Check the weather
Even though you’re working inside, it’s still important to have at least 24 hours of dry conditions, so the product can cure properly. Open windows to allow for airflow and avoid applying in a room that’s too humid or damp during application or drying.

Prep
Wipe away any peeling paint, flaking plaster or old wallpaper with a damp cloth if needed. Use a stiff-bristled brush to clean away dust, dirt, or loose material. If there are any cracks or holes, fill them. The better the prep, the better the finish. You can apply the product onto damp surfaces, just make sure they’re not dripping wet.

Apply evenly
First, give the tin a really good stir. Then, using a brush or roller depending on the size of the area, apply the paint over the affected area, plus 30cm around it. While it should be touch dry in two hours, wait around four hours before applying a second coat (if needed) or decorating over it.

It gets to work straight away, forming a tough, breathable seal that locks out damp and prevents stains from bleeding through your paint or wallpaper. There’s no glossy finish or stickiness - just a smooth, sealed surface that’s ready to redecorate. Further applications should not be necessary, meaning that if staining reoccurs then more investigation needs to be done into the source of the damp.
So, whether you’re sorting out a ceiling stain from a past leak, tidying up a damp-prone wall or getting ready to redecorate after fixing a problem, make sure the job’s done properly. Tackle it with Thompson’s and get it right the first time.
